WhatsApp DP size 2025

Profile picture, status, and group icon each use different aspect ratios. Uploading the wrong shape gets cropped by WhatsApp — often cutting off your face. Here are the pixel sizes that work, plus a free resizer that stays on your device.

DP vs status vs group icon

DP (profile photo) is square. A tall phone portrait will be center-cropped unless you square it first.

Status is vertical 9:16 — do not reuse a square DP without reframing.

Group icon is smaller (500×500) but still square.

Step-by-step for profile photo

  1. Open resize image for WhatsApp.
  2. Upload your photo → select 640×640 (or 1080×1080 if you want extra sharpness).
  3. Use crop to fill so your face stays in frame.
  4. Download and set as WhatsApp profile picture.

File size tips

WhatsApp is lenient on KB compared to government portals. If you need a smaller file for another form, use image compression after resizing. For quality basics, read resize without losing quality.
